Folsom Zoo

Filed under: General — Tim @ 8:27 pm

We went to the Folsom City Zoo (”Pictures here”:http://www.labrodeurs.org/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=66 ) this weekend. It was a small zoo, which was perfect for Kyle. We got there when it opened and we had exhausted it’s animal supply in a couple hours which happened to coincide with nap time. It’s a great little zoo with all rescued animals. We saw lions, and tigers, and bears (and lots of other animals). Kyle had fun chasing the roosters and chickens around the grounds.  We even went for a ride on a pint sized choo-choo train.  Did we mention we love northern California?!

The shower incident

Filed under: General — Tim @ 9:56 pm

Well, it’s been one very long week and we’re mighty glad it’s about over. It was filled with frightful expriences and restless nights. It started off well enough. My last day working at Rocketdyne was Friday 3/2. Saturday through Monday were dedicated to cordoning off and packing up the perishables and essentials for our stay in corporate housing. Tuesday the movers came and started packaging up all our earthly possessions into boxes of all shapes and sizes. Stressful, yes, but blessedly uneventful. Worn out from a hard days packing the Brodeur family enjoyed a nice dinner at the Woodland Hills polling place (Grama and Grampa C’s), it was election day. We retreated to the bathroom for a nice, hot, relaxing shower. Kyle, eagerly anticipating the warm water tried to take a giant step into the shower. Unfortunately the floor was wet and he slipped and fell. I had gotten into the shower just seconds before and watched in slow motion horror as his chin contacted the tile threshold. He immediately screamed and squirmed in pain. Mommy picked him up and there was blood everywhere. I hopped out of the shower and inspected the wound. There was a 1/2 inch long, very deep, gaping split on the underside of his chin. We covered the wound with a towel to stop the bleeding, I put on my clothes (wet), and kyles diaper and jammies (dry) and off we went to the emergency room. The Emergency room wait was long, but blessedly uneventful. Kyle, hopped up on tylenol, went to sleep in my lap. Finally at 10:00 PM they took us back to a room. When the doctor arrived he took one quick look and told us it would need stitches. As we prepped Kyle he started to cry (of course) he was scared. He was secured in a papoose like Velcro device so he couldn’t move. The nurse held his head steady and the doctor proceeded to give him a shot of Novocaine at the wound location. Poor baby screamed like crazy at this point and all we could do was stroke his head and try to comfort him. He calmed down a little bit (not much) once the Novocain kicked in. The doctor then put six very nice stitches into one very upset child. Daddy consoled one very upset child and one lightheaded Mommy. We were finally released at 10:30 PM and thought for sure Kyle would fall asleep in the car on the way home. Nope, he was so worked up he didn’t let us get to bed until midnight. Eventually he realized the day was over and he went to bed. We felt so terrible that our child had to endure such a painful, traumatic experience. If only we could have taken stitches for him, or the bump on the chin to spare him the pain. We’re comforted by the probability that he won’t remember any of this when he grows up. I drifted off to sleep in preparation for the movers the next day. Mommy, thoroughly traumatized, didn’t get much sleep that night…. to be continued
